Volkswagen Oil for Engines FAQs

Most modern Volkswagen engines require fully synthetic engine oil with specific VW approvals, like VW 504.00, VW 507.00, or VW 508.00/509.00 for newer models. Petrol engines often use lighter viscosity oils like 0W-20 or 0W-30, while diesel engines may require 5W-30 with special additives. Always check your owner's manual or contact us with your registration number to confirm the exact specifications for your VW.
5W-30 is suitable for many Volkswagen engines, but must carry the correct VW approval number for your specific model. Not all oils are the same - the VW approval (like VW 504.00 or VW 507.00) is actually more important than the viscosity rating. Using oil without the proper VW certification may not provide the protection your engine needs or could affect your warranty coverage. While 5W-40 and 5W-30 have similar cold-temperature properties, 5W-40 is slightly thicker at operating temperatures. For some older VW models, 5W-40 with the correct VW approval is perfectly acceptable.
